Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
Helping children and adolescents understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. CBT empowers them to challenge unhelpful thinking patterns and build healthier coping strategies.
Helping children and adolescents manage anxiety through evidence based therapy techniques, building resilience and confidence for the future.
Supporting healthy growth and learning through assessments and interventions tailored to each child's unique needs and milestones.
Empowering young minds to reframe their personal stories, build self-understanding and develop positive coping strategies.
We all have self-talk going on in our heads but most of the time we’re busy and we don’t even realise it. But it’s important to learn to ‘tune in’ because our thoughts have such a profound effect on the way we feel and subsequently what we do (or don’t do).
Helping children to understand the relationship between thoughts, feelings and actions is an important part of helping them with a whole range of issues. It’s an approach known as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
We can all learn to monitor and exercise control over our self-talk or ‘Chatterbox’ but it takes time, understanding and practice to seize the power and self-control that this brings. It’s a lifelong journey for all of us, so the sooner children learn the first few steps, the better!

30+ Years of Experiance
Chatterbox Child Psychology Services is founded by Michael Vaughan, a Registered Psychologist with over 30 years of experience supporting children and families in New Zealand and the UK. At Chatterbox, your child’s well-being is at the heart of everything we do. Our team of psychologists has a deep understanding of the challenges young people face today. Backed by the standards of the New Zealand Psychologists Registration Board, we offer a high level of professionalism and care, with a philosophy that 'children don't care what we know until they know that we care'.
Our sessions are designed to be positive, light-hearted, and engaging, helping children feel at ease and ready to tackle challenges like anxiety, behavioural issues, anger, and self-esteem. We take a collaborative approach, working closely with both children and parents to ensure the best outcomes — starting each session with parent discussions and ending with clear next steps.
Whether at our Browns Bay clinic or conveniently at your child’s
school setting, we create a supportive environment tailored to your family’s needs. We also offer a free initial discussion, giving you a chance to connect with us and ask questions without any pressure.

We Get To Know You
Our journey begins with a conversation. As trusted psychologists, we're here to listen to your child's story and understand the challenges being experienced in academic and personal growth. Together, we uncover your child's unique strengths, identify areas for improvement, and define meaningful goals for the future.
Assessment
Our assessments are designed to quickly identify the root causes of challenges and provide actionable insights. Using a combination of questions, puzzles, and activities, we gather information about the way your child views school and family life and delve into self-perception. With your permission, we may also review school reports and gather feedback from teachers to create a holistic understanding of your child's strengths and needs.
We collaborate with you to discuss our findings, celebrate your child's strengths, and highlight opportunities for growth. With personalised recommendations, we equip you and your child with tools and strategies to overcome challenges and enable your child to thrive academically, emotionally, and personally.
Michael is professional but upbeat and approachable - the perfect combination for creating a connection with both us and our son. He was the ideal person to go to when our son needed some extra help to build his confidence, work on life and social skills and have some dedicated, professional coaching and counselling. Our son matured so much over the approx 12 months that Michael saw him and we believe that Michael had a big part to play in that positive development.

Mike was great, easy for our child to talk to, open up to and to and build a relationship with. He also kept me as a parent included and updated before and after sessions. Would recommend him.
Thank you Mike. It was a pleasure having you working with my son.
